Royal Town Planning Institute Yorkshire Practice Seminar Manual for Streets and Manual for Streets 2
Yesterday evening Sanderson Associates took part in a Practice Seminar for the Yorkshire Branch of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) on the latest national street design guidance set in Manual for Streets 1 and 2.
The RTPI Yorkshire Branch describes Manual for Streets and Manual for Streets 2 as:
“the successors to the much loved and used Design Bulletin 32 and Places, Streets & Movement which have been at the forefront of highway design and housing layouts for many years. These more recent documents see the evolution of thinking on these matters going a stage further”.
RTPI invited Bob Greenwood of Sanderson’s and Peter Baker of Peter Baker Associates to give their views on the consequences of these developments from the perspective of the highway engineer and the architect respectively.
Bob and Peter are known to the RTPI as “two very experienced practitioners” and Bob, Peter and Harvey Pritchard, who organised and chaired the seminar, were the LPA project team that was put together to oversee the design of the first phase of the major residential development of Colton in Leeds on which much of the standards and guidance produced in the former West Yorkshire Highway Design Guide was based.
The event was well attended with representatives from a number of professional disciplines, and local authority/private sector backgrounds. Feedback from the RTPI branch was that the seminar was “enjoyable and instructive and certainly kept up the reputation of the seminar series”.
It is likely that this seminar will be repeated so watch this space if you missed it the first time!
