Paul Robinson one of our Senior Engineers gets on his bike for Christies.
His words are below:-
A few months ago I started going out on my bike to try and get a bit of exercise, and cycling being the only thing I can do without putting my back out, I’ve kept it going and seem to have caught the cycling bug!
A couple of weeks later a friend suggested trying a bike event as a target to aim for… Foolishly I agreed and left it to him to arrange the event.
I had a gentle ride along some nice canal paths, disused railway line, or something similar in mind.
A few weeks later and the bike event information dropped through the letter box.
I had been registered for a charity bike ride on Sunday 4 September and will be doing the Manchester 100 charity bike ride in aid of ‘The Christie Charity’.
The 100 related to the distance we have to ride, either 100 Miles or 100 Kilometres… Thankfully he signed us up for the 100 Kilometres! (ONLY).
The ride takes place around Manchester and Cheshire so hopefully the terrain will be less mountainous than the hills around Saddleworth.
For those who don’t know, Christies is one Europe’s leading cancer centres based in Manchester and treats cancer patients from all over the country.
Knowing a few people that have been treated for cancer I thought it would be a chance for me to ‘do my bit’.
