Sanderson Associates, the award-winning Yorkshire highways engineering consultants, are celebrating a hat-trick of successes.
The company, based at Grange Moor, near Huddersfield, have just won two prestigious new contracts and been short-listed in a Yorkshire business awards competition.
Bradford Metropolitan District Council appointed Sanderson Associates to carry out a Public Realm study into the best way to preserve and enhance the historic setts in Haworth Main Street.
These are one of the longest stretches of stone setts in Yorkshire and are a valuable Heritage attraction for tourists who visit Haworth from across the world. The setts have become loose, in places, damaged and in need of restoration.
Meanwhile the company has been appointed as consultants by Kirklees College on their present site at New North Road, Huddersfield, and also on their multi-million pound Waterfront Quarter development on the banks of the River Colne in Huddersfield.
The Waterfront Quarter is a large mixed-use development on the edge of the town centre and the college’s relocation will see significant improvements in pedestrian crossing facilities on the adjacent Ring Road to make everything safer for students.
Sanderson Associates have acted for Strategic Sites and Kirklees College for several years, originally when the college was planning to redevelop on the present site and then again when the college agreed to relocate to become a major part of the Waterfront Quarter development.
Alison France, managing director of Sanderson Associates, explained: “We have prepared a transport assessment and travel plan for the whole Waterfront Quarter development with individual travel plans for the college, office and residential elements on the site.
“We have also prepared preliminary layout designs for the accesses and junction improvements and improvements for pedestrians for the Waterfront Quarter,” she added.
Together the two highway construction contracts are worth approx £2.2 million.
“We are absolutely delighted to have won these two significant contracts in challenging economic times. They are two very different assignments, one about preserving our past and one about planning for the future and the students and the local community for years to come, but they are both crucially important. We look forward to delivering a first-class result,” she said.
Meanwhile Sanderson Associates have been shortlisted in the SME Business of the Year category of the Huddersfield Examiner Business Awards.
Alison France said: “We are extremely pleased to be short listed for such a prestigious award and we look forward with excitement to the awards ceremony in November.”

Several of us made the effort today and came dressed in Pink, we held a vote of the best ‘outfit’, the result of the winner was a tie between Claire and Darren. Martin did a draw of the two tied winners and Claire was pipped to the post by Darren!
Darren therefore won a bottle of Champagne which was presented by our Managing Director after the draw.
Friday the 30th October 2009 is Wear It Pink Day.
We will (hopefully) all be taking part and each donating a pound for the pleasure of dressing in Pink.
The best dressed (everyone in our office will vote) will be presented with a bottle of Pink Champagne !!!
