Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016
The new Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD) 2016 come in to force on Friday 22nd April 2016.
It incorporates the regulatory and presentational improvements for signage as recommended in ‘Signing the Way’. These revisions will provide greater flexibility to Highway Authorities by allowing more discretion about the design and placement of many signs.
The proposed amendments include various new signs and permitted variants for existing signs whilst also removing many of the requirements to place both road markings and traffic signs such as those required to indicate a parking bay.
The new TSRGD 2016 will also relax the lighting requirements from previously required illuminated signage. However, safety critical signs will retain the existing illumination requirements. These include signs such as ‘Give Way’, ‘No Entry’, vehicle restrictions (including height and width restrictions), banned manoeuvres and signs used on Motorways.
We will be embracing these changes thereby improving development proposals, designs and Clients schemes.
