Ainley Top Roundabout, Smeaton Award, Certificate of Excellence
Ainley Top Roundabout is a vital organ in the body of Kirklees road network that distributes a significant volume of traffic every day. It is a junction linking Huddersfield and Halifax together with the wider M62 motorway corridor between Leeds and Manchester. The £2.3m improvement scheme at Ainley Top Roundabout involved widening the centre of the roundabout to form three lanes, complete signalisation including all its approaches and exits. Toucan crossings and shared footway facilities were provided for pedestrians and cyclists throughout the roundabout to improve safety for the non-motorised users.
We were delighted to be appointed by our client to design this scheme and are pleased that the scheme was awarded the ‘Smeaton Award’ Certificate of Excellence at the 60th Annual Gala Dinner held by the Institution of Civil Engineers on Friday 6th March 2015.
